1991 c1500 torque converter install...please help
I have a 91 c1500.. has a 98 vortec 350 in it.. brand new. had the same 98 motor in it before i replaced the motor... Went to install everything and forgot that the torque converter needed two clicks for the tranny pump. I turned the truck on, wouldn't shift into gear.. So, I pulled tranny and seated the torque converter a second time.. wasn't sure if that was it so I pulled it off again just to redo it and make sure..... NOW it only clicks once, but it's longer drop onto shaft.. could it be possible that they are just lined up?

If you bolted the transmission to the engine without the converter being back, you probably broke the pump.
Normally, you should have to 'pull the converter forward' after the transmission is bolted to the engine to then be able to bolt up the converter.

Yep, sure enough that's the problem. Thanks. It's nice to get confirmation from so one else. If it were up to me I would just slap a manual on there and call it a day.

Okay, so, I received a brand new transmission and seated the torque converter like I was supposed to. Followed every video I could have possibly watched, which all showed the same thing.
TRANSMISSION is still not shifting into gear. I'M AT MY WITS END. Could there be anything electronic holding the transmission from shifting? Neutral safety switch? SOMETHING.. I really couldn't see how I didn't seat the TC properly this time.

How much oil have you added? It will not engage until it is at least 2 quarts from full.....usually takes total oil of 11 to 12 quarts.
I put in 5 or 6 quarts, then start the truck letting it idle. This allows the oil level to stabalize while I'm adding the rest and peroidcally checking the dipstick.
This is especially true with a new converter.....takes a lot of oil to fill that rascal.
ALSO, on a 4L60, make darned sure that the TV cable is adjusted properly before you ever drive it......if not, you can burn 'er right back down.
