Hey everyone if you guys could help me out on this one I would very much appreciate it.

I have a 1997 k1500 with a 5.7liter automatic and both the motor and transmission are shot. I was wounding if the 6.5L turbo diesel would bolt right up with only a few minor modifications.

And one more thing. If someone could help me find a 6.5L in the state of WI that would help me out soooooo much and I'm wanting to spend 2000$ for the transmission.


Please and thanks, this truck is my only mode of transportation.

well man pretty much like all cases of buying parts for a vehicle. your going to get what you pay for, i have a 97 z71 and have been through 3 transmissions because everytime i replace it i go with a easy $100 junkyard transmission, and the one that i put in 3 months ago is already slipping, i dont know how much the turbo desiels go for but you can probably find a rebuilt one on the internet in your price range. and i do know that ive seen rebuilt chevy transmissions for less then $1000, and these are rebuilt and can handle up to like 500 horsepower with a great warranty, so id look around on the internet

don't do It, I have had my share of 6.5TD's NEVER to return. for $2300 you can buy a vortec 5.7 NIB from GM or find a good wrecking yard used set "motor and Trans" for what you are talking, are you going 4L80E or staying 4L60E. you could go a LT1 swap, or even a LS* series swap, the LS is a hot swap now days. I am on the home stretch of a TPI swap, throttel responce is greatly improved. trust me thr diesel sounds cool, but repair cost will kill you, I purchased an excelent 1996 C1500 with 100k for half what a rebuilt 6.5 cost, NOT TO MENTION A NEW UNIT. If you want torque, find a 7.4 or a 8.1, dollars per mile wont be much different, but maintenance will cost much less. or even a 40sbc or 383sbc with vortec heads. many mny options that are more cost effective than the 6.5

P.S. it is a relitive easy swap to go from gas to diesel or viceversa, just do your home work. items needed: Motor, trans, transfer case (heaver), drive shafts, fuel tank and lines, wiring harnesses with fuse blocks - under hood and under dash, ECM, possably dash guage set. And that is just to get started. that is why I did not convert my diesel to gas, passed that savings on to another person

yeah thanks... idk what i want to do there are so many options... haha i will probably go with the same motor and transmission.. i cant afford all the modifications needed to put a diesel motor in my truck thanks for the help guys.
