1997 Z71 Ball joint replacement?

I am in the process of replacing the ball joints and have noticed that the lowers are pressed in. Does anyone have any reccomendations on what all I need to take off so that I may get them pressed in and can I get that done at an auto parts store like oriellys. Thanks any help will be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

Kelly

RE: 1997 Z71 Ball joint replacement?

I done my passenger side upper and lower. Top was riveted, took two hours of drilling, hammering. In my town, I could not find a large ball joint press. At O'reilly's they had a press, but even the largest cup was too small, and the clamp was too small to go around the top and bottom. I had to rig up a press, using part of the loan-a-tool, a big socket, and a peice of wood. It did work, very well actually. But, there are two sizes of presses. Get the big one. Also, I did try Auto-Zone and Advance too. They all had smalls. You may have to buy a big one, about $99.00 unless you have a Harbor Freight where you are.

Luckily the uppers have been bolted in so that shouldn't be any problem. But like you said I am having a heck of a time with the lowers. I guess I'll pull the knuckle off so that I can get to everything and go from there.

Thanks

Kelly
