Thats right, plus mine is a standard cab full bed, so if yours has a larger cab, that adds a bit more weight.

RE: 1998 chevy mpg?

That is just guess, but a lot of the companies I have been ordering parts fromto built the stupid thing have been telling me that end result most people are getting is almost double their original mpg. the only thing is its will COST ya the bucks. I am hoping to get one working by the first 2 weeks in may, and I am going to post my results. There is another thread in the off topic section about this if you would like to follow the progress. If you are not wanting to go hydrogen, then I would suggest CAI (S&B), a exhaust to compliment the CAI, and if you want get big results I keep hearing thattuners work wonders.

My friend has a 95 2500 with a 350 TBI ext long bed and 4.10 gears and combined highway city mileage he's getting about 16.5mpg. i would think with a vortec motor you would get at least 14 in the city.
another friend had a 97 1500 with a 350 and 3.73 gears and was getting about 14.5 in the city.
maybe the 2500 are just that much heavier im not sure.

I have a 2000 old style 3/4 ton with the 350 engine, 4L80E transmissionand 3.73 gears. I bought it new and almost no one has ever driven it but me, 80K, its not been a very good truck is you ask me, but it will pull mama's RV.

Front left front brake caliber dragging, truck pulled to left most all time, tach died both items replaced under warranty, less than 10K.
Odor kit installed at 10K under warranty, cab smelled like dogs butt, mama would not even ride in truck.
Fuel pump out at 45K $600
Intakegaskets at 60K $475,
AC compressor at 70K $600
Water pump at 75K $150
Transmission torque converter at 80K $1050, just got in home last week.

I pull a RV and get 10 mpg driving about 62 mph.

On highway I have gotten as high as 15, but most of my driving is slow country roads an 7 miles to town. So most of the time I get around 13-14 mpg and I drive very conservative.Never over 60 mph and most of the time 55 mph which is thespeed limit on our state roads. (KY)

What I have found, it cost money to move heavyiron around and even more money to move heavyiron around fast.

Things I have heard that helps: fresh tuneup, clean fuel system include fresh fuel filter, check tire psi, keep them on the high side, I run 50 psi in my 10 ply rated tires. 245/75/16 load range E.

Synthetic oil in all drive train systems, however I am old school and I do not use it: K&N air filter, but it must be properlycared for or you can ruin a engine because of excess dirt.

for every5 mph you drive over 55 mph, you lose about 1 mpg in fuel mileage. (estimate)

Good luck and drive safe

The extra tire width isnt going to matter,12 highwayis a little low. Should get about 16 or so if its all highway. I get 14+ city on mine but my truck is lighter like Northey said.

Hey Northey should I get this guy involved in our nightmare topic?? LOL, just kidding.

James- Go to the off topic section and click on hydrogen. Its about 10 pages of talk on improving mileage, but you should at least change all your filters and tune that thing up.

Hey guys let me start off by saying sry being that this is the only way i have found to post.

I have a 1998 k1500 with the 350 vortec which around christmas time blow a head gasket and due to the engine haveing about 226000 miles on it i replaced it with a brand new engine from a chevy dealer... I have since then installed it and it is running prefect except for when i try and start it... ill turn the key and wait til the pump stops humming efore i trun the key but when i do the truck turns over fine but itsstarts very slow like as soon as i let go u the key its will fire 2 or 3 time and then just burst into life... the timming is set prefectly and the pump is fairly new but at this point im stumped on what the problem could be. so any help would be greatly appreicated. If you need any further info in order to help me just let me know
