I have replaced both front hubs with new hubs and sensors on my 2001 silverado 4x4 as I was told by dealership it was the problem. did the work myself and a friend. Abs and brake light stayed off the next day after replacing thme i was on my way to work and three miles out both lights abs and brake both came on again. and stays on. Now I am kinda wondering if the Vehicle speed sensor was the real culprit. wonder what the chances are , the reason I think this i have a freind who works for city shop, and he says they have more problems with the VSS then they have with the hubs sensors on the meter reader truck fleet. And replace many VSS to solve their abs light staying on. What are your thoughts?

Default ABS & BRAKE LIGHT on

I had the same problem. All i needed were rear break pads and the BRAKE and ABS lights went off. I was shocked.

Hi gerkendave,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Try cleaning the ABS sensors at the front wheels.(At the end of the wiring harness on the hub assembly.) Sometimes they get dirty or mud-clogged.

Is it possible that it is the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) sensor that is making the abs light stay on since i have already replaced front sensors and hubs.

My research leads to an unrepairable relay in the ECBM Module.

Costly part, supposedly easy to replace.(Sorry)

That is what the dealership told me also. about relay. they wanted $1452 to replace the whole ECBM. However i leaning on ModuleMaster.com rebuild in stead. They have told me that i can get it rebuilt for $130 and have it back in several days. with a 5 year warranty on it. anyone tried them or heard about how good they are. Just trying not to be taken for a ride you know what i mean?

I have same issue with my 01 sub, dealer says no recalls outstanding. They replaced the ABS sensors with no effect and now they want to replace the ABS computer at $1300 as it is returning an 'internal error', so I would like to replcae the wire, can anyone tell me if this is a job for a shade tree mechanic?
