2000 Silverado Torque converter

I have a 2000 Silverado Z71 5.3L. In the speeds between 40mph and 50mph, while cruising I will notice a fluxuation in the RPMs as much as 500 rpm. This will actually cause it to jolt a little bit. I bought the truck used at a Toyota dealership and have it under warranty. I have taken it to them and they said they took it to a Chevy dealership and that Chevy said that it is normal. Not believing them I took it to a Chevy dealership and they also told me that it was normal and that it was the torque converter kicking in. My father has a 2001 of almost the same truck and I have never felt that in his. Does anyone else's truck to this and is it normal?

RE: 2000 Silverado Torque converter

I wouldn't say it was normal for it to give you a jolt when the converter locks up, but it's better then having a shutter when it locks up; if it shutters that means it's slipping which is not good. Try adding some tranny treatment to the fluid. If i were you i wouldn't worry too much about it unless it starts to shutter!! also try going about 55 mph and keep your foot on the gas pedal and with your left foot tap the brake. this will disengage the converter for a couple seconds and see if you get the same jolt. then you'll now if it is the converter for sure.
