2003 5.3 engine swap
I have a 2003 1500 Z71 that has 222,000 miles on it. I need to know if it is worth having a new motor dropped in and if so what the aproximate cost would be to do so?

Hey bud I have a 99 5.3 z71 and I blew my motor up at 197000 and I put an 04 motor in mine just last Christmas. I did it all myself and after the junkyard motor with only 30,000 miles on it, oil and filter, and I also needed trans fluid and power steering fluid after disconnecting the lines. She came to a grand total of $1,800.
Just for kicks I called a local shop and just wanted to see how much I saved and I was quoted $3250-$3500

If your truck is in good condition by all means install a new motor. It is certainly cheaper than buying a new Truck.Even a used one can be iffy if the previous owner was negligent on maintenance...most people are.
In my opinion the Classic style 99' to 06' are of far better overall quality and better suited for longevity due to not being as complex.
Those years are already being coveted by customizers due to ease of modifications and availability of cheap parts.
My truck still looks and runs like new inside and out after 12 years.I could easily afford a new one but plan on keeping mine for many more years to come.An engine swap is probably coming but not for a long time I hope

A newly remanufactured GOOD quality motor installed by a shop is going to be $5000-$6000. That would be with new plugs, wires, belts ,hoses, t-stat etc... We only use dealer motors which come with 3 year/75,000 or 5yr/100,000 mile warranty. The warranty is good at every GM dealer across the country regardless of who installs it.

Have you had any issues since the swap? I am thinking of doing this myself. Also, are you still running on your original transmission? I had planned replacing mine at the same time as the motor just to be more on the safe side.
Thanks for the info.
