Canada? They caused every 2001 chevy to have a $2,000 repair (no recall damn it) at buyer's cost. I have one.

Mexico put on a PLASTIC head gasket. Canada put RECYCLED radiator fluid which eats plastic. GM: covered up the deed.

It's starting to make sense now. Hideous bcm issue causing expense: from Canada not usa.

What happened to Made in the USA?

integrated dashes were something mechanics hated in the (80's 90's before all cars had them). they said "they're way too expensive" (infact they still are compared to individual parts - very much so - AND IMPORTED)

if i need a new "integrated" instrument cluster dash (IPC) i will consider going retro.

everything new has a hideously complex and costly failure waiting behind it and NO ONE playing referee

never forget the ignition key pot can also cause a problem: if the pot isn't working your car may thing the key is still (or in some position) after the key has been pulled out (or maybe think they key is on radio/acc when infact it isn't). the mechanisms are mechanical and are known to fail.

i am not a chevy mechanic.

(the power control module that removes power from accessories) (pcm? bcm? what does chevy call it?)

is the power computer PART OF the IPC (instrument cluster), or separate? if separate, then spending $200 (outrageously high for a poor person who needs to replace 1 broken part not a whole cluster F98roi of them)? if it is, the guy above is wrong saying to replace it before diagnosing the IPC is surely responsible to "turn itself to sleep"

or is the power computer separate?

I also advise to check the ignition key (it has a few positions including OUT - but if broken can register the wrong position - it's mechanical they do go bad and cause power mysteries)
