I have the new body style 07 and took it to a local shop to get the truck realigned and was told my ball joints are really wearing. I have 86,000 miles on the truck and it's insane because my father has never touched his on his 98 ford F-150 and that has 150,000 on it. Enough of the rant and onto the question. I have been doing some research and plan on making the change myself because the shop wanted $1,100, and I quit frankly don't have that type of money at the moment. Now during my reading I have read that the upper ball joint would require a replacement of the whole upper control arm. Is this accurate or can I just press out the ball joint? The same goes for the bottom. Can I just press out the bottom ball joint?

Sorry I can't answer that question, after putting 30 years in with the company.
But I did hear that they were sealed and couldn't be lubed.
If you put in after market one make sure they have a grease zerk on them so they can be serviced.
If you can't find them, install your own.
Hard to imagine they wore out that quickly,
my other old 1977 has the orginals in it, and work fine.

if he has an f150 with 150k on it its either 100% highway or no one has looked at his steering I find it very unlikely nothing is worn.

to answer your question yes the upper is done as a control assembly and the lower pressed in and obviously you'll need an alignment afterwards, for what its worth I'd check over the whole front end again just to be sure so you're not getting another alignment in a few months

Have another shop check out your truck. How do you know the ball joints are really bad, and not getting a snow job from the first shop?

Check them to confirm for yourself. If your not sure how to check them; you probably shouldn't be doing the repair.

I am sure and they are bad. They have quit a bit of play.
