2008 Silverado K1500 4x4 5.3l - Purchase Advice

I am new to this site. I would like to get feedback about a truck I am looking at buying on Auction. I have done quite an extensive research on this particular model truck BUT, I am hoping for any Personal Experiences you all may be willing to share with me about this truck. Here are the specifics:

2008 Silverado K1500 - 4x4 - 5.3l
4 DOOR EXTENDED CAB PICKUP - matching cap - NO Tow Equip.
5.3L V8 SFI
4 WHEEL DRIVE
197,000 miles
City Owned & Maintained - Not sure if they will provide maintenance records, probably not, truck located in a Very Small City in E. WA State.
Carfax: only has the purchase info on it - nothing after 6 miles at purchase date -Super Clean
All pictures of truck look Good - very clean
This is a Great Site! Thank You

I have read that the Crew Cab chevys are assembled in Mexico? I am curious to know if a lot of these Electrical gremlins I have been reading about in these later model 2000' chevy's happen to be Crew Cab rigs.
The truck I am interested appears to have been assembled in the US. Apparently either Michigan or Indiana.
Anyone happen to know where the Transmissions and Engines are Assembled for these trucks?

I have a 2008 extended cab ltz with 5.3 over 100000 miles on it only thing I can say is keep oil changed well if its have auto fuel management mode mine runs well, I shut off the afm so run on 8 cyl all time

I would stay away from an afm 5.3 built from 2008 to the end of 2009. the reason is oil consumption and collapsed afm lifters. After Nov 2009 the problems were rectified.

Do all these rigs with the AFM have a way to shut it off so the engine always runs all 6 cylinders?
What is the deal with the AFM, is it in all the trucks in 08 or just some or what?
I will have to call and ask if this rig has AFM.

afm is only in he 5.3. the 6L, 4.8 and 6cylinder do not have it. Yes, you could shut it off with an aftermarket tune. If the oil consumption issue is already a problem, shutting down the afm now is pointless. You might as well fix the oil consumption issue, install the afm oil pressure relief valve shield and leave the afm working.

Wow, this is all Very Helpful, Thank You guys!!
This vehicle I am looking at is just one of a few But, I Would like to get it if the price is fair. Tech2 says: "I would stay away from an afm 5.3 built from 2008 to the end of 2009. the reason is oil consumption and collapsed afm lifters. After Nov 2009 the problems were rectified". So... an 08 model may be ok IF, the build date on it is in 07? That sound right?
I guess if this is a City Truck (with 5.3l) I am interested in has 197000 miles on it, I could Assume (I know) the AFM was not an issue OR was rectified.
I am biased toward Ford trucks But, I really have no good explanation as to why, I guess I just like them... similar to certain types of Women :) . I never really liked Dodge and I don't know why But, I bought a Retired Oregon State Police 2008 Charger and was Shocked at how well built and dependable it was not to mention the Hemi Power :)
Happy NFL Sunday

my 2008 don't use any oil at all I just shut the afm mode off because I didn't like the mode shifting from 4 cyl to 8 cyl its very noticeable on the highway sometimes

Hi tech2: Would you give me some suggestions on what Tune
I would get OR, what Manually Adjustable Chip I could get for this truck that would also enable me to Shut Off the AFM system? (2008 5.3l Silverado A/T)
Thank You.

I would not shut of the afm. I would drop the oil pan and install the shield over the oil pressure valve located in the oil pan.
