350 TBI motor can I rebuild it?
 

I have a 350 TBI motor in a 92 Z71. It recently spun all the bearings except the main front and rear. It also had a good size chip on the #8 cylinder right where the distributer sits beside it. The block on the other side of where the distributor is also had a nice sized chip in it. I dont know if I did it or if it was the previous owner. It looks like one of us forgot to tighten down the dizzy when it was being timed and made it jump of the cam gear and into the cylinder and block. My main question is can I rebuild this motor with that thin spot in the bottom of cylinder #8. I took some pictures so you guys could get a better idea of what im talking about. Thanks.

To invest money into that isn't a financially a good decision.High risk when to find another 350 is pretty cheap to have a sound foundation to rebuild.

I agree with Neff. If you spun the main brngs you damaged the bores which would require line boring to repair. Pick up another block.

Thanks for the opinions. I think ill take the advise. I was thinking that turning the crank wouldn't be too expensive but line boring and the chip in the cylinder is pointing me in the direction of a new block. Thanks fellas.

Best bet is a new or reman block IMHO. Though if money is tight, you could take it to a quality machine shop that reworks blocks, they should be able to let you know what is invovled when they see your block. A junkyard block may be more work than yours.

If you plan on keeping the truck, I would buy a quality long block, usually cheaper in the long run.
