4wd causes engine excessive resistance
---I have a 1988 K1500 Chevy pickup with a 350 4wd. I just put a new Transfer Case Switch in and a new 4wd Actuator. I put it in 4wd Low and started to drive forward, it drove like there was alot of resistance on the engine. I did a K turn and the steering was much harder to turn the wheels..... Is this normal?
--- I have no clue how long the 4wd and transfercase switch were dead before i replaced them, nor which one was dead, I just knew it didnt go int 4wd so I replaced them both. Now it goes in 4wd.
any info to help, thanks

Four wheel drives don't turn very well in four wheel drive, the wheels are set up to go the same speed and when you turn the inside wheels have less distance to travel than the outside wheels and this creates resistance because he wheels are fighting each other, it also causes the rig to jump and fight the turn.
In fact four wheel drive don't really like being in four wheel drive on hard surfaces with good traction for the same reason. Use four wheel on slick roads or you will wear it out fast.

I'm assuming you haven't driven many 4wd vehicles? From the sounds of it I would say its normal but it never hurts to let someone else drive it and get another opinion.
