95 Z71 gas mileage question

My son is thinking of buying a 95 Z71. It wil be his first vehicle and I want to do a little research before hand. This truck has 187k miles, but appears to be in pretty sound condition from what I can tell so far. What kind of mileage can I expect from a 95 silverado 4 wheel drive? Also, what are some of the typical problem areas associated with this model and drivetrain?

Thanks

I have a 1998 Z-71 silverado ext. cab with the 5.7L. pulling a 5x8 uhaul and with the cruise set at 73-77 mph i got 11.3 mpg on a 340 miles trip.. same trip without the uhaul i got 14.3 mpg...

unloaded, anywhere from 12-15 in the city, depending on tire size, right foot, and gears and whether it is a 305 or 350.
check the truck overy througholy for rust. around the cab corners are usually a good place for rust.

check the oil and trans fluid make sure they dont smell or look funny.

good luck with the search, the tbi motors are pretty good and very reliable. they are the most powerful compared to the vortec motors of 96+ but it would be a good truck.
