Default 97 K1500 Speedo/Tacho doesnt work

Hello

My Speedo/tacho on my 97 K1500 Silverado mostly doesnt work.

Sometimes it just comes alive and start working for a trip, but then when I start the Car again,it doesnt work anymore.

The Rest of the Dash (Oil,Fuel,Battery etc) works always.

I took the Speedo yesterday out to see if a connection or something like that is broken. But couldnt see anything.

What would you guys propose that I check next?

Speed sensor? Where is it?

Thanks

Phil

my advice may not be the best, but seems logical to me. go pick up a cheap tach, snip the existing tach's wire and hook the new cheap tach up to it. if the new tach works, problem solved. If it doesn't work, then its probably your computer/RPM sending unit

yeah, was also my idea. Got an offer from a scrapyard 29$ + shipping.

Will tomorrow again have a look if I find some loose connections,if not I will get a new one and try my luck.

Can anyone tell me where the Speed Sensor is located?

think its on the driverside of the transmission... if I remember correctly you have a speed sensor there, and on older vehicles you have a cable wire that goes to the speedometer. heres some stuff that might help, check them all out

got this ignition switch harness... Now the big question is how to install it.

my Idea from the Job is:
1. disconnect the Battery
2. remove Airbag
3. Remove Steering Wheel
4.Remove all this Plastic Trim around Steering Wheel
5. Take out the Locking Cylinder (somehow)
6. Remove to Old Module/Harness and install the new?

any advices?

I asked a shop how much they charge to replace it: 130$
So I try to fix it my self.
