Default auto headlight bypass?

Hey all, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for help with an issue. I installed an HID kit in my 99 z71 silverado. I'd like to keep the headlights off at night without having to remember to push the e-brake in everytime I get out of the truck. It'd also be nice to be able to shut them off without having to turn the truck off then hit the e-brake then turn it back on. I tried unplugging the light sensor, and also jumping the sensor connector. Neither worked. Is there a certain resistance reading for it to work properly? I've also tried replacing the light switch with one from an 02 1500 (those models you can press the dome override buttin a few times and it'll kill the lights) but didnt work. So I'm assuming there's a module that controls it. Any help is appreciated!! thanks!!
