Cap and Rotor change on 7.4L Vortec
What is the procedure to change out the cap and rotor on this engine. In my truck it is completely covered by the hoses and manifold/firewall. Which fittings are it Torx?

Hi rowekmr,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums. Depending on which year it is, you may have distributor-less ignition. Look for the plug wires, do they all go straight up and connect to a small coil directly above each spark plug near the injection rails? What year is the vehicle? |
Hey Thanks for the welcome. I am sorry its a 96 Chevy 3500 CC. There are no coils above the spark plug. I hope that helps.

The 7.4L Vortec was offered from '96 to 2000.
My truck (also a 7.4L Vortec) is also very difficult to get back there; Unfortunately, not having experience in changing the distributor on my truck, I'm unable to be of any real help. I did find this, however, which offers a 360* view of the replacement part, which may give you an idea of what you might need. Sorry I couldn't help more. |
they are a pain in the ass, it took me a few hrs to change it on my old work track and u need to be carefull not to break the cap. actually i think it is an non wear item and not a cap at all, my friend explained it to me once but i forgot what is in there, go to the parts place and see what they give u when u ask for a cap and rotor, im pretty sure it is a fully electric dist and there are no cap and rotor, but the plugs and wires are a bitch

So has anyone on here actually changed the cap and rotor?
