Does anyone know what could cause this sound

I have a 1998 chevy 1500 4x4 and it only does it in 4x4. http://youtu.be/OKQx_HvinnA this is the sound

ha, don't know how good my drive by diagnosis is so......if its coming from the tcase....stretched t-case chain maybe. if from the t-case you will have to open the case and inspect for a loose chain. If I'm wrong...well...what's free advice worth.

do you do a lot of rock crawling with that truck? auto t-case or manual?

Manuel and no it just started doing it when I to tasted my tires I put a lot of grip in the front and tiny bit in the back

Jobi March 27th, 2014 11:33 PM

you "tasted" your tires did you. Yum.

No idea what you just said. If you saying it happened after you replaced your tires....are the tires the same rolling circumference? Different size tires front to rear will cause a bind up condition in the tcase.

Jobi March 28th, 2014 9:43 AM

I said rotated as in I put the bigger grip tires in the front and the less grip tires in the back

Sounds like $$$ to me. Can you say I'll take a transfer case behind door number 3 please.

Jobi March 29th, 2014 7:57 AM

I put the tires back the way they wer before and still got the sound does anyone know a easy way to get those stub shafts out

Allan In NE March 29th, 2014 8:07 AM

Why are you pulling the stub shafts? They have nothing to do with your problem.
