Failing fuel gauge.
My fuel gauge has become intermittent. It USUALLY drops to zero and I get the LOW FUEL warning at the same time. However sometimes the fuel level just drops significantly and then recovers. Needless to say its annoying as hell.
Does anyone have any clue as to what it causing this or how to fix it. Is it the sending unit or perhaps a bum ground? |
join the my fuel gauge sucks club.bout a 100 on here w/the same prob.loose connection or loose grnd.i ck. all that still got prob.i hope sumones got the solution

The 100% guaranteed solution is to replace the fuel level sender or the entire fuel pump sending unit. BG44k has been known to fix about 50% by removing sulfur deposits that accumulate on the level sender

I had a 2000 GMC and had the same issue. Had to replace the entire fuel pump sending unit and pump. Never had the problem again.

When I saw the title, I just assumed you were complaining about lousy fuel mileage. My gauge drops too, from full to empty, the speed depends upon how far I press that pedal on the floor.

I also have this issue. I'm assuming it's just the sending unit going bad, but it's annoying as all hell.
Any Chevy experts know if this kit would be appropriate to fix the problem? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1990652 |

Add me to that list of about 100.
My 2001 Silverado has that same issue. I was told it's the sending unit and since they have to drop the tank for the fix might as well install a new GM pump assembly since they'll be in there and be done with it. |
