fan is making a squealing noise

like the title says my fan is making a creaking squealing noise, any tips or ideas on what i can do to fix this. when i push on the accelorator the noise increases. I know its the fan cause when i turn the engine off everything stops but the fan keeps spinning and the noise continues until the fan stops spinning.

Is this an elec. fan or a mechanical fan? It sounds like a mechanical fan, and sounds like the clutch is shot. That I know of, your fan shouldn't be spinning after the engine shuts off. Have you noticed any overheating?

Since it still does not when you shut the truck off, replace the fan clutch. The fan should stop spinning with in 1-2 seconds after turning the engine off

how do i replace the fan clutch?

Speedy650 March 24th, 2010 10:37 PM

unbolt the fan and the clutch should come off with it. unbolt the clutch from the fan itself and bolt the new one on and put it all back on. shouldn't take much more than 30 minutes.

alright thanks guys, i wont be able to get another one till wednesday, since my truck isn't over heating would it be ok to still drive around until then?

cam3439 March 25th, 2010 3:18 PM

Yeah, but just keep an eye on the temp to make sure you don't overheat. Just make sure you get it done soon.
