Fan noise at startup

Hi guys,
The fan on my truck turns during the first 2-3 minutes after startingand then stops.
I am able to turn the fan when the truck is cold and hasn't run.
I thought that it may be the clutch fan but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanx for the help.

It is normal for the fan to run up when you first start a cold engine for a few minutes and then disengage, this is caused by the fluid in the fan clutch pooling up in the lower portion of the clutch housing from sitting, once the fan spins for a few minutes the fluid is redistributed and the clutch will operate properly.

It is also normal that you can spin the fan by hand when your motor is cold, it should have more resistance when the motor is hot.

If your engine isn't overheating it sounds like you're good to go.

Thanx for the reply.
It doesn't do it every time and it does go away after a few minutes.
I feel much better knowing it isn't urgent.

It kinda reminded me of our ol' 1978 5/4 ton truck we had.
The fan was always on and you could pretty much hear it from across town.:D

Thanx again......
