Folding armrest/console problem

I have a 02 Z71 with folding armrest-center console. This "console" has the most ungodly squeak when it is folded down. The noise is coming from the lid. Anyone here have that problem and a solution?

Have you tried a simple solution like WD-40 where it pivots? Maybe throw some towels underneath so it doesn't drip on the seats...

I did try some silicone with no effect.
