Ford guy thinking about making the switch...
So lately I've been on the hunt for a new to me truck, wanted an F250, but can't afford a diesel, and not real happy with the 351 and it's ****ty mileage...
So with silly brand loyalty out the window, I'm thinking of finding a nice Chevy/GMC K1500 or K2500 with a TBI 350 (heard they get really good mileage, and are cheap to fix) Really what I want to know is, what are some of the weak points to look for on these trucks? any trans problems? any front end problems I need to look for? How many miles can you expect to get out of a TBI? Really just need to know all the good and bad about these trucks.. And just for ****s and giggles.....Any other Ford guys on here? |
I used to ahve a 95 burb with the TBI
mileage was 10-12 but it was lifted 9 inches so .... supposedly it was supposed ot get 16ish. Had 230 k miles on the clock when I sold her. All I replaced was the tranny (besides normal wear and tear) and 204k |
I have always been a "Ford guy" when it comes to trucks and was searching for a nice F-150 when I stumbled onto my 2004 Silverado {purchased used in February of 2010}. A friend of mind had (and still has) a 2002 Silverado and spoke highly of it - so took the plunge. The F-Series rides firmer and the interiors are much nicer; but I like the looks of the Chevy's exterior and that 5.3L is simply unbeatable. It is a direct descendant of the original "small block V8" that dates back nearly six decades. As with any other truck, take care of it and you'll do just fine. |
140K on my TBI, and no issues.
You'll probably want to cut the wear mileage claims of the spark plugs in half, tho. |
