Default Front end play, Pitman arm? Idler arm?

Today i decided to jack up the truck and go through it grease things and look it over and i noticed play in the from end. I can grab my wheels and move it side to side and i have at least one inch of play. I can really notice it when driving but i can notice a noise when going down the road. What could it be? This is a 99 z71 4x4 1500

If you can grab the wheels and turn it side to side then look at the tie rods

Consider there are 12 moving parts to turn the wheels...take your pick. Idler arms, and Pittman arms move only side to side, no "ball" movement whatsoever. Look at these two first. And as a previous poster mentioned, tie rods, would be the 2nd culprit. But considering the low cost of all of these parts cost at Autozone, you, yourself can rebuild your entire front end for under $200. I personaly hate play of any kind, and thats because I have had tie rods break while driving. And when that happens? I hope you are going about 5 MPH.
