gas guage stuck

I have been doing research online and have found a couple places that say my gas gauge is bad. The gas gauge is stuck at 3/4 tank and doesn't move even after I shut off the power. I have pulled the dash and can easily move the gauge manually, but then it goes right back to 3/4 when reinstalled and turned on and it doesn't move again.

maybe the stepper motor is bad?

Maybe I should hit the junkyard for another gauge.

I am not sure, but if it is on your 89 model, you might have to get a matching sending unit.

the sending unit was replaced by the previous owner

What i am saying is I think the guage, and sending unit have to be a matched set, I could be wrong.

I tested the gauge, it works. I think the sending unit is bad. Which is easier, dropping the tank or removing the truck bed?
