Heated Seats Question
I recently bought a 2012 Silverado LT extended cab that came with the leather seating but did not come with the heated seats. I would like to add that option. I talked to the dealer about adding it before I made my deal and I could not get them to add them for me since they already put me in a bedliner and since it was chevy truck month with all of the rebates. Has anyone ever added the heated seats to these trucks? if so, what all was involved? was it hard to do? I found a factory oem kit on ebay but was unsure if it would work on my truck and i didnt know where to install the switch. any input would be appreciated. thanks. link is below.

2007-2012 Heated Seat Kit for Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra 17803282 | eBay I don't use the seat part, but do enjoy the back rest being heated. The controls for mine are on the door panel. It has 3 settings. Low is good for me. You will more than likely have to go to a wrecking yard to find seats with a heater already installed. And possible a new door panel for the controls. Lee |
Thanks for the reply..it sounds to me like you have the ltz silverado. I know those heated controls are on the door I used to have an 2007 ltz but I traded it because the sunroof always leaked and they never could fix it right.

the non-factory installed, oem seat heater kit switches are installed where the dash storage bin is located. The pocket below the dash vent.

Don't know your skill level but its probably not something for a beginner. The seat upholestery has to come off. Wires and modules routed and mounted correctly under the seat and through the sill plate.
GM OEM kits do come with easy to follow instructions and you can be sure everything will fit correctly. Aftermarket, not so much. |
the GM Dealer wants $465 for the heating kit and $300 labor to install the factory module. They said the wiring was already in place and it was plug and play. I would rather have the factory heated seats than an aftermarket. Does anybody have any pics they could post of the factory GM heated seats in an LT not an LTZ. I wanted to see a pic of the switch on the dash. Also, if anybody has any nice aftermarket pics I would like to see those as well. Any instructions would really help too. Its getting pretty cold here in KY lately and I need my wife's butt to stay warm so she will be happy. It gives me brownie points.
|
the wiring is not there; its part of the kit. Everything will plug in nicely as it is oem designed for the vehicle. It is basically a stand alone system. I have seen and read the installation instructions.
|
i ordered the OEM heat seater kit..its supposed to be in this friday..i will install this weekend..hope everybody wishes me luck on this project..hope it all goes well and works properly..i will post pics and installation help for those that plan on doing this. thanks.

I posted 2 videos to YouTube. I'm doing the installation tomorrow. If anybody wants to see the heated seat kit check out the videos. More videos to follow. Feel free to contact me for pointers or help if you plan on doing this in your silverado.

Ok..I installed this kit in about 6 hours..it's a complete nightmare..much better off taking it to the dealer and letting them do it for 3 hours labor cost. At least that's what the service dept told me..anyways, taking the seats out is a pain and a lot of work. Running the wiring harness wasn't too bad under the carpet to the seats and the door sill..the only problem I ran into with wiring was running the 2 connectors wires behind the dash where they plug into the heated seats switch..it was tough to find an opening to get to the wires..I have everything completed and hooked up but Ido not get any power or lights my heated seat switch..I hopped everything up according to the instructions as far as the harness going into the terminal block..I hooked the purple wire on the harness to the purple wire and the yellow to the yellow..there is a little block with a green wire that I plugged into the terminal block and there was a bigger block with a red and black ground wire that I plugged into the terminal block where it was the only place it would fit..any ideas on what I did wrong? Any help would be appreciated..thanks

recheck the wiring that you installed in the juction block. did the correct wires get put back into the cavities?
the the instructions say to have the seat modules programmed after installation. |
heated seats
the heated seats are factory installed so I have not played with any wires
my car has the "great GM improvement" that the block heater does not work until -18 celcius - we get a lot of weather -10 -15 with the wind blowing and snow so what d we do - remote start it and let it idle the 2 times that it allows you car is still cool run an interior warmer but the seats are still cold and hard ( put on some nice seat covers so it helps keep the butt warm at least when you first get in |

unfortuantly I tried this when I bought the car and it screwed the computor- at least the dealership reset it for me for free) - it is in the computor not the block heater it measures outside air /engine temp etc I had a long winded explanation from Chev dealer it went over my head - basically thanks to Ottowa for this to save green house gases - now I remote start the good ol max of 2 times
|
the thermistor is in the cord. If it wasn't, you would not have seen any difference in operation with the new cord.
The ecm can set dtc's when the ect and iat sensor readings fail logic tests, in certain conditions, due to the block heater. Gm has performed ect and harness relocations to prevent this. the 120volt block heater cord is a stand alone system and has no electrical interaction with a 12volt ecm. remove the cord and put an ohm meter on it; above -18 degrees it will be open and closed below that temp. the block heater element will read approx 35 ohms at all times. |
i ended up taking my silverado to the dealer to do the wiring and the flash on the bcm..only took them about an hour to do..my heated seats work great and they automatically kick on when i remote start my truck..soon i will be posting a video to you tube showing my new working factory heated seats. please check out my youtube channel at

for programming and wiring an hour is a very reasonable labour time.
Where did you go wrong? |

I am a general motors grand master tech. I work in Canada. I've performed campaigns to correct the conditions you describe. Sounds like you have it all under control.
|
actually I don't have it under control what is name of campaign so I can go in and get it fixed - Competition Chev in Stony Plain is where I would take it
thanks |
the bulletin is #10-06-04-008B. Its not a campaign so you will have to pay to get this work done. Your explaination of the concern were vague so I suggest you review it and be sure it applies to your particuluar case.
|
thanks I will let you know what happens
|
the very first issue was how to get my factory heated seats to come on with the remote start it is a 08 impala LTZ - the block heater was another issue
all of a sudden I am getting replies I wired the seats wrong etc no wonder people get confused I did find the bulletin but need to talk to dealer how it works as it only says to move the sensor the other side of the block (maybe making it cool enough not to effect the computor) |
Maybe you should read the entire bulletin as there is more than relocating a ect sensor.
I have to unsubscribe from this thread. |
I have not had time to go to dealership to see wha all is involved Like you say there is stuff missing from the bulletin
temps have been ok here -15 C the worst so far hopefully I can get moving on this project next week |
