Hi marines7896,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

I'd offer 4K, this would give you a 2000$ hedge against the unseen but almost inevitable maintenance $%&tstorm which is likely to erupt soon after your purchase.

The engine probably has a good bit of oomph yet, being a diesel. But, at that mileage, you have to expect some repair or maintenance issues. I guess as long as you're mechanically inclined (or maniac-ly inclined, whichever) and you keep a close eye on her, you'll come out OK.

Upside is the HD platform really sheds the abuse.

What are you going to use her for?

300K. Diesel probably still has life. Be aware that you are probably looking at replacing things like suspension/steering components, universals, etc. in the near future. There are lots of high mileage vehicles out there. You just have to be aware that you will probably be dropping a lot of coin into it to keep it on the road. Lots of opportunity for custom stuff when it comes time to replace. does he have documentation on the maintenance or just his word :D. You look up the kelly blue book? What does it say about the value? 4K sounds reasonable without looking at the vehicle.

Too many miles, It's worth to give the extra bucks and get something with lower miles.

haha, you all are crazy, my friend was offered 6 grand from a dealership for his 02 duramax with over 200k miles. its a diesel. made to run, may be expensive to fix. but made to run

I, for one, stick by my reply, sight unseen the truck could be in deplorable condition, for one thing.

For another, at that mileage,(300K, as I recall) engine wear is only a small part of the overall picture. Hub bearings, (as mine just did) alone, can run you 1000$.
At that mileage, given this type of vehicle, it wouldn't be at all abnormal to be facing 2500$ or 3500$ of repairs in a 6 month period.

The market is saturated with trucks right now, and if you shop carefully, you should be able to find trucks hundreds or even thousands below"market value".

Given the market conditions,It's not at all unusual for a dealership to offer a higher value than actual worth when accepting a trade on a new vehicle, considering the cost of the new vehicle involved. If Dealership PAID 6000$ for a 9 year old used vehicle outside of a trade-in, I'd love to see THAT invoice. This alone neither means the vehicle is actually WORTH 6000$ nor your friend made, or got, a good deal.
