Cool How much oil should a new Silverado use?

I have a 2009 Silverado 4x4 with a 5.3 litre motor. How much oil should it use from the first change at 3500 miles to 7% oil life remaining at 11000 miles? No hauling trailers or heavy loads.

Are you saying a quart in 2000 miles is normal oil use for 5.3? As in a lot of owners see this? For a 2009 that seems like a lot.

Peter, not sure what you using for oil type, but I wouldn't recomment 7500 miles between changes. If I read you right you went from 3500 to the 11k mark before changing.

The new cars say if it is driven right you can make it through a year with only 1 oil change

Since the Oil Life System has nothing to do with the actual condition of my oil I think I'll stick to 3000-5000 mile oil changes.

Hi Peter Wolf,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

It's been my experience that the OLM merely spits out a "change oil now" signal every few thousand miles. If you tap the pedal three times quickly before starting the truck, it will say"OIL LIFE RESET" whether the oil has been changed or not.

I only know this because I run Synthetic for extended intervals with only a K&N filter every 6K or so.
