Increase HP & Torque on 4.8L Help
Hello, let me first say I am new to the site and this is my first post. This is also my first Chevy I have ever owned. My vehicle is as follows:
2006 Chevy 1500
White
Crew Cab
4x4
4.8L V8
3.73 axle ratio
I have an upgraded exhaust system, brute force cold air intake and bully dog triple dog GT gas programmer. Under normal circumstances the truck runs fine (not a ton of power but ok) but I am really wishing I had the 5.3L. However, I really like everything else about this truck and I have already but some money into this truck so selling it really isn't an option at this time.
Recently I was pulling my 17' gator trax boat through the mountains and the truck really struggled and going up hill would hard shift to 5,500 RMS to keep up the cruise speed.
My question is would new gears help this? Will I have to get a supercharger to fix the problem? Do I need both? Would I also have to get a different/new transmission?
Obviously just trading up to a 5.3L would be the simple fix but are there things I can do to this motor to increase its performance and what is the cost. Like I said I really like this truck. The motor is in great shape, the paint is excellent, interior looks new, only 40K miles, new spray in bedliner, etc.
Thanks for any help and glad to be a Chevy owner.

the right charger might be a help but then if your doing alot of pulling then you have to worry about heat issues.

cusion of mine put a 305v8 in his truck and also put 4:10 gears
(he has a 199? 1500 gmc single cab short bed)
he can pull anything he wants but he only gets 10mpg
as far as superchargers theres many options out there
the best thing to do would be to get an intercooler with the charger
a good setup would run you about 1500-3000$
also if you run a supercharger you would have to run a 90octane or higher for best resaults
