just moved to a freezing climate. what weight oil to use?
so I just moved to the Boise area, love it here.
it gets below freezing pretty much every night down into the twenties, teens, even around 0 on rare occasions over night. I've been using 20w40, but back in CA it basically never got to freezing where I lived. So what is a good oil weight to use for freezing cold startups and such? vehicle info in dig line. |
Hello Mile Racer 69,
I use 5w30 Full Synthetic myself and live in New England. Recently it has been getting extremely cold for this area, sometimes in the single digits. I also take trips up north and have cold started with no problems. Sure other people will have varying opinions but 5w-30 seems to work fine for me. This is with a 2006 Silverado 5.3L V8.
