manual transfer case difficult to get out of 4wd

HI all - New User here. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I have a 2005 Silverado 5.3 4x4 with a manual 4x4 lever (not the push button with auto) 180,000 miles. 4wd works fine, but when I put the lever back to 2wd the 4wd light goes out, but it stays in 4wd. When I stop, back up, etc. I can unusually get it out, but it is difficult and other drivers don't quite get it. I would like assistance diagnosing. Acutator, transfer case motor, etc. All forums seem to be about push button systems.

Thank you!

Are you shifting out of 4wd to 2wd with the truck in motion?

Thanks for your reply. Yes - even re read the manual to make sure I was doing it correctly. I have owned a chevy 4wd for 20 years up here in the nasty NY winters.

I had an 82 half ton 4 speed 4wd. You might try, if you haven't, shift to nuetral while rolling slow, then from a complete stop, shift to 2wd.

Thanks Kevin. Doing that and other things gets it out, but I should not have to.
