New to Gm, need help with transmission

Hi all,
I was just fortunate enough to be given a '95 1500 C 5.7 extended cab with a stepside bed. I love it already but she needs some work, and since I am going to be deployed for the next couple months I figured I would learn as much as I can before I get back stateside.

Here is the laundry list of stuff that I am going to need to take care of:

-both doors sag (not uncommon I've found out)
-rusted door opening and tailgate components
-bad transmission

i suppose I need to elaborate a bit on the transmissions issues. It has no problems going forwards, just trying to backup. When you put it in reverse, let off the brake, nothing will happen. Give it some gas for about five seconds and the entire truck will shudder and you'll slowly start to move backwards. From my limited experience with automatic transmissions I would say the reverse clutch is shot. Given the mileage the truck has (175xxx) I would say a rebuild is in order. If anyone has delt with rebuilding these trannys before, please chime in. I'm looking for good rebuild kits and advice. Any experience is appreciated. I'll probably be getting everything I need while i'm out of country so I can have something to do when I get home:)

thanks in advance everyone, I appreciate it.

Tranny? Depends on what you have 4L60E or 4L80E. Its in your VIN number you ll have to decipher You can get it rebuilt to your specs for like $600-800, if you re willing to R&R it yourself. If you re going to rebuild it yourself, get a rebuild/shift improvement kit from B&M, and a manual from ATRA for that(available on JCWhitney.com)

The other parts? LMCTruck.com

Luckily I actually have a picture of the vin from before I picked the truck up;
2GCEC19K4S1282349

Do you know which alphanumonic character i'm looking for to find out which transmission is in there?

Thanks for the info so far, when I get done working tomorrow I'll start looking into it all.

i ll look it up for you later when I get a chance, look in the glove box for the build sheet also for me bro. MXO is the 4L80 and MX is 4L60 if I m not wrong. My shop manual is in the car and its cold outside so if I can avoid it I dont want to go outside.

And JCwhitney also has the rebuild kits too and weatherstripping for the doors.
