Okay, I have a really annoying squeak from the front of the engine that cannot be stopped. I have replaced belt tensioner, idler pulley, alternator, and the belt itself. I believe the squeak is constant, but I can only hear it at low speeds. What the hell could this be?

EDIT: Truck is a 2004 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L, auto

Need more details with engine running open the hood. Be careful now! Where is it coming from? Now rev it up does it get faster? Could be Altenator making the squeak I have had that happen before really loud and annoying!!

Squeak could be any moving part with lagers in it. (Airco pump, powersteering pump, ...).

buy yourself a tech stethoscope, it's 4 bucks at harbor freight tools.

alternator bearing comes to mind number one. every squeak i had in any car started with alternator bearing.

btw, water pump will do it just fine.

Yep I've got one of them stethescopes, but I couldn't find the ticking noise on mine so while it was running I gave the belt a good dose of WD-40. Its been tick free for 2.5 months now so I must have done something right!

I have the same problem, changed belt, idler pulley, belt tensioner,water pump and alternator. Stops for a day or so and always comes back. Only thing left to change is the power steering and harmonic balancer. Anybody got any ideas?

did you use a aftermarket belt or oem?

Thanks tech2, I finally found the problem. It was the power steering pump. The shaft pulled out about a half inch when i pulled on the pulley. The pump was causing a misalignment and a slight freying of the belt. I think this has solved the problem.
