OBD II Diagnostic code P0449 help

Hey folks, My 2006 Chevy 1500 truck has the engine light on and failed inspection yesterday due to code P0449. I need some help in finding out what needs to be done to fix this and get rid of the code so I can get thru inspection and make the light go off. I'm a single mom with a kid in college and a kid starting his senior year in high school. I don't have a lot of money to be spending on a dealership to fix this but I do have friends who love to work on Chevys. Can anyone help me out with this and let us know what needs to be done. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Code P0449

Definition:
EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective
2- Check connector and wiring
3- Fuel saturated vapor canister
4- Failed EVAP vent solenoid
5- Fuel Cap could be faulty.

I would run some Seafoam through it, I usually put the Seafoam in the tank when the level is below 1/8 and a day or two before a fill-up. Then try a new gas cap, I would buy one from the dealer, cause I think they are better than most from the parts store. After that it is time to trouble shoot the rest of the EVAP, you should get a Haynes Manual for this.

Thanks so much for all the info. I will hand this over to my Chevy friends and hope they can get it fixed. I will post the results when we find out.

p0449

i have a 2002 silverado z71 and i have a p0449 code that popped up when after i replaced my fuel pump. i think it might be the fuel tank pressure sensor because when i replaced it i cut off the original sensor and replaced it with the one in the kit with the fuel pump. can anyone confirm that this could be why the code is popping up? maybe the connections weren't all too secure when i did the replacement? i was originally going to replace the evap vent contol solenoid but was wondering maybe it was something as simple as that since i'm going to drop the tank to get to the solenoid anyways.

Update for p0449 code. Fixed for 2002 silverado. It was the vent valve. Not too bad once figured it all out. Was cheap and easy fix overall.

I had a vent solenoid kit put in my o1 Silverado 5.3 by the dealer. What a joke, they relocated the solenoid and the emmision code came back on in three weeks. Not to mention $458.00 lighter in my wallet. I went back they just reset and said see what happens.

Welcome to the forum.:) I hope that's typo, "20006,." Otherwise, you'll need to find a Tech ZOZX scan android to work on it.:D Anyway, find a way to get your vehicle scanned for trouble codes and then we may be able to help you make sense of your concern.
