Default Poor XM Reception - 2012 Silverado

Anyone else having poor reception with their XM? I've read the disclaimer about buildings and trees, but I've got Sirius in my jeep and had XM in my F250 and rarely lost my reception.

This new silverado drops reception all the time in places I've never had problems before.

Also, does anyone know if you can run an external antenna for XM? When I have the truck camper on, no XM then either (which I can somewhat understand).

Thanks,
Roger

I had it for 90 days with my new truck and any hills would kill the reception from the satellites. I am at latitude 36.6 which evidently is too far north for the XM satellite.

I let the subscription end and prefer FM or the MP3 player for the road.

Default 2012 Silverado LTZ -Same Problem

Hey Airforceret

I seem to have the same problem. I intend to take it back to the dealer to have them look at it. Also own two other vehicles with Serious radio and I have absolutely no problems in the same driving conditions.

Not sure if it is a latitude issue, but it should work better then it does.

I am in Victoria 48.4328° N, 123.3347° W so even further north then elkhornsun.

Regards

Jack

Where I live most of the hills are only 150' high but when I would drive where they were south of the truck they would blocking the satellite signal and the music would cut out repeatedly and for 5 seconds or more at a time.

The antenna on the truck is using the cab as a ground plane and should provide a good strong signal to the radio. It if is not getting to the radio I would suspect poor grounding of the antenna or the radio and possibly even the chassis ground wire which may not be properly tightened. Start by checking the antenna mount and from there each connection up to the radio.

Is there nothing in the owners manual to reset the antenna positioning signal?

Since all I have now with xm is an external receiver, with the menu option for aiming the antenna, also has the frequency selection. Are you picking up a radio station or static? If so, and I cannot remember on my 2010 silverado with built in xm if you can change the frequency you pick up xm on, but that is a problem. FCC should desginate an fm frequency totally by itself for satilitte radio.
