Power Steering Pump Leaking

My power steering pump is leaking, but the mechanic said it wasn't that important if I didn't fix it right away. Is this accurate? I've heard they can cause engine fires?? About how much are they to replace? Thanks!

Last time I replaced mine it was under $100. I prefer napa and if you go ahead and get the pump and reservior together it's not to difficult to do it yourself. I would get it done as it is pretty close to the exhaust.

the price is completely up to where you have it done and depending how bad it is yes it can be livable for a while. The pump shaft seal is a pretty common leak on these pickups, just depends how often you have to add fluid.

Haven't had to add fluid yet so it must not be too bad. Wish I could do these repairs myself, but I have no skill! Thanks for your help!
