i'd say open the diff cover and see whats goin on!

def sounds like you lost the rearend. like 'stylez says, pull the cover, you'll probably see a bunch of gear teeth layin in bottom of diff.

hey look at that.. the top, bottom and left, gear are totalled. and man did it stink of burnt fluid.. man that was a horrible stench..what is this part called exactly? can i replace just that part?

maxxman04 March 13th, 2010 2:39 PM

nope. ya gotta replace everything. the ring gear, pinion gear, and most likely the little spider gears if they look chewed up at all. there's a certain process and tolerances that have to be set too, so if you're not familiar with setting up rearends, then leave it to pros. your other option is to find another complete rearend, inspect the inside and axle play and all. as with any used part, there is a risk of it not being very good. sometimes you get lucky tho.

is this a pricey project? i wouldnt want to tackle it.i just wanted a little info before i caled the garage or whatever..but i found these spider gear kits on ebau for a hundred bucks. is tthis a kit that will be needed?

it sure can get pricey. i've seen $500-$1500. check these guys. i know a guy that works there. not sure if he's a sales person, but you might be able to drop his name, let him know you were referred. his name is Daren.

look at a junk yard and ask if the have any warrentys on their stuff.$200 rearend from the junk yard is cheaper then doing the gears on the the current one unless you know how to do them.
