Replacement engine

What is the best replacement engine for a 2000 Silverado 5.3 with piston slap. I love my truck but do not want to get a 2000 replacement engine from GM because I don't want the same problem. I was told Jasper Engines has a good one but I would like to know of other options.

Is the piston slap that bad? All the 00-06 5.3s I've heard does it, not one problem has come from it either

piston slap

It's getting worse, a couple of minutes to go away to now about 5 minutes. Also it sounds like a detroit diesel now versus a slight tapping noise.

Yes, I know.

That slap is really, really annoying. It just drives a guy bonkers!

However, and you already know this, but it comes from both the design (shorter skirt) and materials used (allowances made for the different expanding rates of the piston and the block metals).

If I were to replace an engine, would not even consider anything but a Goodwrench.

My 96 has 260k on the clock and the piston slap is only there on start up. I use Mobile -1 and it goes away after it runs for about 3min. in summer and about 5min. in winter. Seems like a waste of money to me...But I'm cheap old fart.

Mines got it at startup too, 3 minutes tops and its gone then I have absolutely no reason to change the engine out

I've had customers that just flat wouldn't put up with it even tho it doesn't hurt anything.

Yanked their engines and had the pistons knurlized at the local machine shop. Cures the problem; but expensive.
