seat leaning back

1995 Z71

the drivers seat is loose - the front left part of the seat seams to not be fastened down as well as the front right side causing the seat to lean too far back if you lean back too much.

i looked under the seat today to see how the seat is connected to the base but i can't get to any mounting hardware that i can see.

how can i fix this?

thanks

start removing trim from the seat. splastic edges, switches, loosen the fabric by unclipping it and pulling it back. Keep taking stuff apart untill you see something either broke or missing.

It may be easier to remove the seat from the vehicle and do it on the bench

There are 4 bolts that hold the mounting brakets to the floor board, there are 4 that hold the seat to the slider track, if it is not one of these bolts being loose then it could be a problem with the track.

thanks - it's not the bracket that's mounted to the floor that is loose - that seems solid. it appears to be flexing at the point where the seat meets the bracket it is mounted to.

i'll try taking it apart.

thanks

you'll probably find a loose or missing boltat the pivot point of the seat. where the back meets the bottom

no - it's actually the bottom part of the seat that is leaning back - appears to be the front left section - just under where your left thigh would be

As far as getting the seat out to get a better look, sometimes the mounting bolts are accessible directly through holes in the slider track.

Usually there are 4 total, one at each corner of the base of the seat.

i got under the seat today to takea look. it appears that the seat is mounted to the frame with a thin piece of metal that is at teh base of the seat and somehow attached to the upholestry. the piece of metal runs from the across the front part of the seat with a screw through it on the left and right to attach to the frame. that piece of metal is broken right where it mounts to the seat frame. this isn't something that i can fix since it is somehow attached to or in side the upholestry.

anyone familar with seats? this sound right. i couldn't actually see what i am describing since it is under the seat - had to feel around with my fngers.
