I have a 2000 silverado LS 5.3L w/175,000 bought it used don't know if the transmission filter and fluid have ever been changed. sorry if this is such a long post but I need yalls help. Here's my situation was fixing to get on the highway and when I went to accelerate heard a loud thud and heard like a whining sound. I pulled over and the whining continued. Started back to my house and noticed that my truck wouldn't shift until about 3000rpm and wouldn't go into overdrive. I got home put it in park and didn't have reverse. I put it in all the gears and was able to move foreward. I checked the fluid level and it was fine. Took it back on the road no change but got a service engine light. checked it and gave me a code of p0751 shift solenoid A performance/stuck off

About a month or so ago the same thing happened to me but my instrument cluster went out and it threw a code immedatly. noticed that the fluid was low and added some and all was fine until now. Can't remeber the code the code it gave me. Thx for the replies and again sorry for such a long post.

sounds like you need a new shift solenoid.

Thx for the reply do you think I should change all of them, theirs 2 I think right. I'm gonna do a fluid and filter change also. The thing I'm worried about is the whining. Anyone have any other ideas.

its hard to tell about the whining. it could be related to the problem you have or might not. i would suggest changing both solenoids at the same time while doing the tranny service. maybe the whining is associated with this problem.

Guess I'll try that first when I get a chance. Kind of scared what I'm going to find when i take the pan off. I've thinking of maybe doing a complete rebuild do to the milage never done one before seen a couple of good vids on you tube dosen't look to hard just time consuming. Just wondering if I did have to do a rebuild would it be better to do a rebuild or buy a transmission from a shop. any advice?

After doing a little more research it looks like I have a problem with the sun shell I believe its called. So it looks like I'm going to have to do a rebuild. I'm gonna take it to a shop to have them take a look just to have a second opinion. I've looked at a couple of websites for the rebuild kits, does anyone have any suggestions of who I should get the rebuilt kit from?

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3L engine, 4wd and 180,000 miles. Whenever the temperature drops outside to the mid 30s and below, the transmission locks up and will not shift into third gear until the temperature gauge reaches the 185 degree mark. In order to shift it before that point the engine has to run up to about 2200 rpm (normal shifting is around 1750 or less). Once the truck warms up the truck shifts fine. Has anybody else had this issue?

Welcome to the forum. The shift pattern is different by design when cold. The goal is to let the engine warm up faster and thus reduce the emission. I doubt there's anything to be concerned as long as there's no unusual clunking or slipping.
