Default Steering wheel help on 1996 Z71

Im customizing a 96 z, which wont be drove much at all. My question is can I replace the factory steering wheel with an aftermarket one like from Grant GT? I know it would have to do away with the airbag but this truck isnt driven much. Im thinking once you remove the airbag the steering column will be like any other Chevy, is this correct?

Yeah its just like any other. You can disconnect the airbag unit safely. Just make sure the battery is unhooked when you do it. The airbag light may come on afterward, but I'm not sure.

Ok thanks a bunch guys...I was thinking it would be like any other ole Chevy column but I just wanted to make sure....Any special instructions I need in dealing with the airbag, besides not getting my face smashed in lol...Whats the clock spring im suppose to remove? Do either of you have a Grant Gt wheel installed on a Chevy, if so would you happen to remember the number for the instalation hub?

Got the new steering wheel put on the truck today, only have one little issue...When I tighten up the plastic "housing" around the steering column the black disc that goes between the steering wheel adapter and the steering wheel itself is rubbing when I turn the wheel....How did your brother get around this issue? I thought about trimming off the ring that protrudes out from the plastic column cover but I didnt really want to...I was hoping there might be another fix for this.....
