Tepurature Gauge problem in 03 2500hd
Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I am having a problem with the coolant tempurature gauge in my 03 2500hd. It pins itself to the far right well above 220. Even after the truck cools it stays pinned to the right. If I disconnect the battery it sometimes corrects itself. I have researched some and found that the instrument clusters for 03 are trouble prone. Can anyone here tell me about this, and is it true that GM extended the warrenty on the instrument cluster?
Any help is appreciated.

GM extended it to 5 years or 75k miles, if the cluster is found to be bad they will replace it.
Before they work on it, make sure you mention this extended warrenty.
good luck

I received this from GM a few months ago, it may be related to your problem. (see pic)

I guess most would just call me old school, but I like to see a set of quality270 degree direct connect gauges in a vehicle.
Oil, coolant and amp gauges working directly off motor telling you whats going on out there.
Lost of oil pressure will kill a motor in a matter of minutes or less.
Loss of coolant will kill a motor almost as quickly. You are having problems and really do not know or trust your gauges.
I would hook up some direct line gauges at least until you get theproblem fixed. If you installa set of quality 270 degree gauges, bet you never go back, they look good and will not lie to you.
They just give me that warm fuzzy feeling and thats worth a lot, just ask what a total rebuild costafter overheating a late model motor.
Just my 2 cents!

That letter explains it all. Stepper motors in the clusters go bad, and GM finally owned up to it. They're replacing clusters with rebuilt ones with new motors.

Thanks for all for the feedback here. I took the truck to my local dealer and they tested the instrument cluster. It failed. It will be replaced free of charge.
Since I am not the original owner of this truck, I never recieved a letter from GM. I am very grateful that I am saving some money because of the information given to me here! Thanks again!

I have a 2016 Colorado and alert came on and tempurature guage was pegged to right. No steam under hood or other signs of overheating. After resuming drive, the guage was erratic going from normal to very hot. After resting engine for a half hour it showed normal range. Should I have sensor checked.
