towing weight?

Anyone know what the max towing weight my rig's drive-train can handle? '95 1500, 350/5.7L, auto trans, and 3.53 rear end.

RE: towing weight?

I think it's rated at about 7,500 lbs but I have pulled a 5,000. pound boat trailer before I changed out my motor with 3.73 gears, didn't like long uphill grades at all and that was when I decided 265,000. miles was time to retire that motor before me and my boat were stranded on the road side.

RE: towing weight?

I have a obs 2000 model
it has a 350 engine (255 hp, 330 pds of torque)
auto with 3.73 diff

The stated tow rating in the manual is 7100#

Always tow with a 25% overage factor which would mean I should not tow over about 5325 #

Main issuewith towing is not what you can pull, it's what weight your vehicle can stop in a reasonable safe distance.

RE: towing weight?

What I have a 7x12 enclosed cargo trailer with tandem axles, its max weight can be 5500#. Luckily the trailer has brakes on both axles, and stops really well.

My uncle has a '94 with the same setup as mine and he occasionally tows my folks 28ft travel trailer I believe weighs around 8500#. So I know it can handle the load I was just curious what the rating actually is.
