Default Transfer Case Identification

I just recently bought a 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 4X4 6.0L but it is not the HD. I am wondering what it has for a transmission and transfer case. The guy I bought it from replaced the transfer case and it is not the right one. My truck comes with auto 4/wd and this transfer case is for a 3 pushbutton without auto...I only have 4 hi and 4 lo and will not go into 2 hi. I want to see if I can find another used transfer case but I cannot find anything on the internet that will tell me what originally came in it. The closest speculation I can see is a 32 spline NP 263 HD. but the mechanic that owned it originally said it must have been an NP 246 HD...so I am a little confused. I understand the 6.0 must have come with the 4L80E transmission for the amount of torque the 6.0 puts out...but what is the correct transfer case that I'm supposed to have?

I found out that the original transfer case is an NP 246 HD and the replacent I have is an NP 263 HD. I have 4 push buttons on the dash..auto 4wd, 2HI 4HI and 4LO. Right now, auto, 2HI and 4HI are all 4 LO....and 4LO is 4 HI...I have no 2HI at all. so now my question is, do I keep this transfer case and rewire it because it is a heavier duty transfer case, or do I just go get the original case and swap it back?
