Default Transfere case ID

I have a 2004 2500HD 4X4 with a manual shift transfer case that is making a LOT of noise. How do I identify which transfere case I have or need? I tried to search this site for a similar thread but had no luck. Can someone help or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks.

there will be a round metal tag screwed to the t-case. It will have a alpha-numeric 3 digit code.
