What size is a stock chevy head unit?

the vehicle is a 1998 chevrolet silverado 1500. I am looking into head units and need to know what the size is of the stock one. I know it is not a single DIN, but is it 1.5 DIN or 2 DIN?

go to www.crutchfield.com. Even if you do not purchase from them you can put in your vehicle info and get all the specs/ sizes you need.

All the factory original radios I've had in full-size GM vehicles have been double DIN. There may be exceptions to the rule, but I've never seen them. My 04 Silverado-surprise! Double DIN.

The metra dash adapter kit provides spacers for both double and single DIN head units. If you see a single DIN unit you like, you can install it in the double DIN space.

Most aftermarket double DIN head units have a built-in equalizer.

starting with 03 chevy full size vehicles they went to double din. before that was single din

Maybe i asked the wrong question, I need to know what size the opening is so that i can put a deck in. for my current stereo (stock), there is a clock, cassette, and all controls on the main part. Underneath, there is the cd deck.

I would like to put a regular sized aftermarket cd head unit in, but need a kit to fill in all the exra space. Does anyone know where I can find a good kit that will work with my truck?

Thanks again

The company name is Metra. If you can't find them locally at parts stores or audio installers, you can order them online for about 20-30$. You'll probably also need a electrical adapter plug, and a GM antenna adapter for most aftermarket radios.
