white sulfur smelling smoke from under the hood
 
Hello, I have a 97 Chevy Silverado 5.7 ...sometimes when I try to start it it just shudders and a white smoke comes from under the hood and then I can start it. Any ideas??? thanks in advance---Bryan

Head blowen or really dirty fuel injectors or Carb Any smoke from tail pipe

possibly a plugged Catalytic Converter. i know when they get too hot they smell like sulfur

It sounds to me like the starter is bad. When you say it shudders I am assuming it is not turning over properly. Then the smell you are smelling is electrical. Or you could have a bad connection at the battery. When is the smoke coming from?
