1991 Silverado 5.7 Reliability ?!?
Hi,
im presently looking to buy a full size pickup and i came across a 1991 Silverado 5.7L 4x4 ... since im not very familiar with this truck i was wondering if there was any issues i should be aware of before buying the pickup
it has nearly 300 000 Km ( 185 000 miles )
how dependably is the 5.7L and its fuel injection
what about the automatic transmission ?
i often go offroading ... how effective is the 4x4 ??? I don't want to get stranded in the forest
what should i be looking at when i go to see the truck
if any owner of this truck could give me a few feedback ... tell me what you think about it ...
i was looking to invest 5000$ toward a truck ... this one is going for 2000$
thanks for your time .. i appreciate

Well it all depends on how well the truck was matained, the 5.7 is a very good motor its easy to work on and dependable, the tbi is ok if its been maintained, the tranny may be the weak point if the previous owner pulled a trailer alot, the four wheel drive is good especialy if it has the rear locker. If you buy it for $2000 and spend the other $3000 on it it would be a very nice truck.

well mine is a 95..so its got all the same stuff as a 91..just newer.. lol mines been great. no major problems at ALL..just normal wear stuff..water pump,alt..sparkplugs.. the 4x4 has never failed even after mudding. mine only has 117k on it. so your has more miles then mine but like 72c10 said its all about the person infront of you how they maintained it.

You may already have a limited slip rear. If the glove box codes are still there, look for g80. If not , jack up the rear and spin the tires or pull the cover.
