1997 Silverado 4x4 tire question!
 

alright guys.

i was just given a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 the other day by my grandfather. Since i already have a daily driver i'd like to make this truck somewhat of a toy.

The truck is stock.

This is my question..

I want to put BF Goodwrench All Terrains on the truck [or if you guys have any better suggestions for tires, i havent shopped around a whole lot]. What size.. and do i need to buy 2 inch blocks and crank the torsion bars? or what is the easiest, cheapest way to make the truck look sharp and still work like a champ. [without scrubbing or having to replace bolts and such every month.]

i want to keep it low maintenance.

i run the bfg all terrains on my rigs, love them. great tires. 45k miles on the ones on my truck. those are 285/75/r16. i'm running 265/75/r16 on my tahoe. no rub, no lift needed. but that depends on how big of tire you want to run.

well i was hoping for something in the 30's

31's, 33's MAYBE 35's.

the 265/75/r16's on my tahoe are about 31", the 285/75/r16's on my truck are about 33". to get an actual 31 or 33 you would need a 15" rim, which should fit fine. or, if the rims on truck are 16", then go with tire size i mention, or close to it. for 35's, or equivalent, you will need about 2-3 inch lift, either by torsion bar crank or new torsion keys, and blocks or lift springs out back. might even need lift for the 33's

The wheels on my 2004 Z71 are 16 x 7. Is it OK to put a 285/75-16 on a 7" wide wheel? The Michelin site lists a rim range of 7.5 - 9.0. I'd like to install a 33" (the 285 is 32.8"), but I'd rather not have to buy new wheels.

you'll be fine with 7" wheel. got same size tires on stock 8 lug hd wheels which are 6.5 wide.

alright.. what about bolt patterns.
I'm thinking about buying some stock 07 silverado wheels to go on the 97 silverado.. [along with the all terrain 285/75/r16's.

As long as both are 6-lug it'll match...

the bolt pattern should be the same 6x5.5...the biggest you'd be able to run i think would be the 285/75/16 more so a 33 just not 12.5 inches wide

hey I put 285/75/16 on mine and they look great and don’t rub but I’d not go messing with ur. Torsion bars cause all that will do is eventually ruin ur front end and through **** out of wack in my opinion...... but I’ve do it and that’s what it did for me ruin my whole front end but 285s look good they are about like a 33 and if ya can afford it put deep dish 10inch wide rims on those 285/75/16s and you’ll love them trust me
