2011 Silverado Cloth Seats

Four months ago, purchased a 2011 Silverado 3500 with ebony cloth seats. After 2 months the dealer replaced the driver's seat cover due to cloth "Fraying" in the lower left corner. Now two months have passed and again the cloth seat is starting to "Fray" again. Anyone have a similar problem and how did the dealer resolve it. Here in the San Joaquine Valley (CA) the summers are very hot and that is why I opted not to get leather, I think I may have made a mistake. Thinking of going back to the dealer and have them replace the cloth seats with leather? This may be wishfull thinking!

I used to work in an upholstry shop and when we had problems like yours it usually had to do with customer habits and they could never figure it out! You or some other frequent user has a habit or a item that is causing it. It could be the height of your truck and the way you get in and out, then combine this with a clothing issue, like rivets in jeans for example or a comb in your back pocket that hits the seat every time you get in. In todays age it could be a cell phone worn on your belt.

My guess is you will be too self aware to find the problem. I would tell people that see you get in and out of your truck to watch you when you don't realize it so you can retrace your entry and exit route over the seat.

I have a similar problem with the drivers seat in my 2010 Silverado (5,500 miles). The left seat back bolster on the drivers seat is wearing and will result in a hole soon. I filed a formal complaint with GM and they directed me to take it to the dealer. They told me to bring it in when I can do without the truck for 3 days and they would take it apart and try to find what is causing the problem. To me, the problem is clear. There is a flexible plastic piece inside the seat back bolster that is out of position. It's acting like a knife blade inside the seat and everytime the seat rubs over it, it wears (that combined with poor quality seat material). I have a friend with a 2008 Silverado. His seats do not have the plastic piece in the seatback bolster and the seats still look like new after almost 200,00 miles. I would appreciate hearing from others who are having similar seat issues.

Do you already have an appointment with the dealership set up? Let us know what they say about the vehicle. I am hoping that that plastic piece is something that can just be removed, and not interrupt anything else.

I wrote the original post on this issue. We "think" we have found the problem with our seat. I wear bermuda shorts and many of them have velcro that closes the back pocket. The fabric they used on the seat, is the same texture that allows velcro to stick to it. Not a very smart choice for fabric, for sure. So I have had to throw away all of my shorts with velcro and buy only ones with buttons. I'm not happy about it. What idiot would choose a fabric that sticks to velcro. All of my Columbia brand shorts had velcro closing, as do many other named brand shorts. I was told that there were previous issues with the Ford cloth seats and that they changed to this new fabric for the 2011 models. This is our 4th GM pickup and they have all had cloth seats. Never did we have this problem on any of them. I've always had the same kind of shorts and NEVER had this problem in any car. Our other car is a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. I've never had any breakdown of fabric on it. It's like new. So it is obvious a mistake in the type of fabric Chevy used this year. I've been told there is nothing they can do about it. Again, I'm not happy about their mistake in choosing this fabric, but not much I can do about it except pay to have them redone with a fabric that is not so flimsy.
