91 Hood latch problems
Hi-
I cant seem to get my hood to open on my 91 K1500. It appears the latch isnt opening all the way. I pull the handle and you can hear it release a little bit but the hood is latched tight. I cant see anyway to get to the latch from the front of the truck. i thought maybe the cable had stretched but i cut the casing down to just the cable and pulling on the cable itself wont release the hood either. Any Suggestions on another way to open it or what the problem might be? I really need to get in there to try and trouble shoot why it wont start and now the battery is dead too...
Thanks
Ben

My experience has not been very good. On a 1984 Suburban with a broken cable I, [well, a body shop] had to cut a hole in the hood. My 1990 4x4 looked about the same, needless to say I put a new cable on it right away.
Might talk with a body shop, but be prepared........bad for us, but good for security-I guess.....

Thanks for the replys, I was able to pry it open and it just appears that the mechanism wasnt fully releasing. Might have just been misaligned or just needed grease. Gonna replace the cable and grease the latch and see if that will prevent this from happening again.

X2 on the lithium grease. Lubricating the sliding joints/door hinges rank right up there with failure to change the brake fluid annually as the most neglected maintenance task on a vehicle. {and yes, I am just as guilty.] I have read that 90% of all brake problems could be avoided if one were to change the brake fluid as specified by the mfg, usually once a year.
While I am on a soapbox, don't forget the diff grease, both front and rear if 4X4.
"Rant off."

Before you go out and spend money....Do the "Fonzi" trick from happy days.
When I pull my latch, it clicks also. Walk around to the hood and slam the center if it with a closed fist. Hood pops up so that I can get my fingers in to release the latch all the way.
